    Day 6 – Kyoto

    Day 7 - Nara
Day 8 – Departure from Kyoto

    Day 1 – Osaka

On arrival at Osaka you will make your own way from the airport to hotel by hopping on the train for a three-night stay. Visit Dotonbori, thronged with an unbelievable number of restaurants and amusement facilities. Check-in from 3pm.

    Day 2 – Osaka
We will join a 2-hour free walking tour to know why Osaka is called the “Kitchen of Japan”. Afterwards explore more of Osaka’s sights on your own. Group karaoke after dinner.

    Day 3 – Kobe
Day visit of Kobe, home of the famous Kobe Beef.

    Day 4 – Kyoto
Travel by train to Kyoto. Luggage transfer required.

After check-in we go to Arashiyama to see the famed Bamboo Grove for some forest bathing and Tenryu-ji Temple. The rest of the day is free to relax at leisure.

    Day 5 – Kyoto
We will join a free 2-hour guided walking tour through the historical streets of Kyoto visiting Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples. Walk through the geisha quarters of Gion and Higashiyama district.

Self guided tour suggestion: Stroll through the beautiful traditional streets of Ichinen-zaka and Ninen-zaka. Walk to Kiyomizu-dera and Kodai-ji. Afterwards visit the Kinkakuji Temple (Golden Pavilion), continue to Nijo Castle surrounded by stunning gardens and take a walk down Nishiki Market.

    Day 6 - Kyoto
Today we visit Fushimi Inari Shrine, which was used in the movie “Memoirs of a Geisha”. The magical, seemingly unending path of over 5000 vibrant orange torii gates that wind through the hills behind Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine makes it one of the most popular shrines in Japan. The walk around the upper precincts is a pleasant day hike. It also makes for a delightfully eerie stroll in the late afternoon and early evening, when the various graveyards and miniature shrines along the path take on a mysterious air.

    Day 7 – Nara

Day tour to Nara, Japan’s first permanent capital and was considered the cradle of Japanese culture and arts, with an extraordinary abundance of temples and Buddhist monasteries. Visit Todaiji temple, the world’s largest wooden building and home to Japan’s largest Buddha. From there, head to Nara’s most celebrated shrine, Kasuga Taisha, Shin-Yakushiji Temple and a leisurely wander through Nara ‘Deer’ Park.

Day 8 – Departure from Kyoto
Our journey ends here and you are welcome to continue with your Japan adventure or head to the airport for your flight.

Excluded are international flights, 7-day Japan Rail Pass, public transport fees, entrance fees, kimono rental, extra activities, coin locker rental, luggage transfers, meals not mentioned in the itinerary, visa and public transport fees, and anything not mentioned in the itinerary.

    Things to consider:
** Vegetarian breakfast in hotels cannot be guaranteed. Japan's cuisine is mostly based on fish stock.
** Each city has its own private company running the trains and buses, hence, subways and buses in cities are separate expenses from the Japan Rail cost.
** Massage treatments are available in all cities we are visiting.
** Luggage transfers required at ca. £8 per way per bag.

*** Please note this is an escorted tour.
*** Participants need to be able to walk a lot comfortably and carry their own bags as they go up and down stairs/escalators.
*** All travel involved are on public transportation.

From dazzling Osaka to historic Kyoto, Japan is a land of breathtaking contrasts.
